Upgrade from Rockshox Recon Silver - Spesh Camber 26"

So after around 4-5 years of riding my standard Camber Comp 26", I'm starting to feel the forks are pretty tired and that I'm ready for something abit sturdier - but not sure where to start.

I'm after a 120mm travel fork, with a chunkier stanchion size. I'm guessing I'm potentially going to need to upgrade my front wheel too if it ends up being a straight through axle? Which opens up the question of budget...would be great if I could upgrade (wheel included - if needed) for £500, but I'm wondering if that's abit tight and I wouldn't really notice a great benefit of the change?

What would be considered a reasonable amount to spend upgrading the entry level Camber? If it starts heading pretty sharply North, am I better considering of a new set-up all together? My eye was drawn to a shiny Trek Fuel EX 27.5 at the Cycle Show the other week!

Also, how do I find out if the bike frame can take a tapered steerer? Looking at the Recon online, that seems to be straight 1 1/8" steerer, most forks I'm finding are 1.5" to 1 1/8" - will they be compatible??

Any help and advice greatly appreciated.

    What year is your bike?

Id look at a reba for 120mm, really good all round fork. You will need a front wheel which will take a from 15x100 maxle for it to fit.

You can get Reba's that will take a 9mm QR.

Consider also the Suntour Epicon (now Epixon due to trademark issues) much better than the Recon and cheaper than the Reba.

Whether you can fit a tapered or not depends on the headtube and current headset bearing.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.
