I want to try a bit of wheel building and was wondering which places to look for stuff like spokes and nipples. Any advice appreciated.

Just riding along have always been good to me with spokes etc.0 -
Sdeals are really nice folk and IME if they don't have what you want, will order it for you and the price will be good.Faster than a tent.......0

SDeals for ACI double butted spokes - half the price of DT and just as good IMO.
For the fancier stuff like Sapim Lazers and CX Rays I buy from Germany - UK prices are a rip-off.
Only go to the LBS if I'm desperate as they charge stupid prices.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0 -
DT spokes from thespokedwheel.co.uk, sapim from thecycleclinic.0

JRA (but not if they're on their hols...); Cyclelclinic; 247CycleShop (for CX-Ray); SDeals; SJS or Sigma for Shimano spares; starbike.com can be OK, depending on exchange rate.
ETA - Spa cycles were good to me on a recent dynamo hub & spokes order at very short notice.0 -
Not everyone montydog over charges for Sapim in the u.k.http://www.thecycleclinic.co.uk -wheel building and other stuff.0

I've used Cyclebasket a few times to buy Alpina DB spokes

Only 21pence a spoke with a brass nipple included. I used them to build up a couple of sets of wheels for my croix de fer and had no problems.0 -
DT competition or Alpine 3 from Rose in Germany... even factoring in UK delivery they work out cheaper than UK sourced spokes... at least if you buy 64 of them
As above ACI Alpina are very good and very cheap... although bear in mind Monty Dog weighs like a loaf of bread... if you are on the lardy side DT Comp or even better DT Alpine 3 will be more durable. Alpine 3 only fits some hubs (those with larger holes... e.g. NOT Shimano ones)left the forum March 20230 -
