Good Roubaix Bib Shorts?

Both DHB and Santini used to do a Roubaix Short for those of us who like to show a bit of leg in the Autumn. I can't seem to find either currently.

I don't fancy splashing the cash on the Rapha ones (which I have no doubt are terrific) can anyone recommend a more affordable Roubaix short?

People were banging on about La Passione on another thread, they have them coming out http://www.lapassione.cc/collections/road-collection/products/thermal-bib-shorts-classic?variant=6441568065

I can't vouch for the shorts, but the 3/4 version of these are ace. Both comfy and toasty, highly recommended: http://www.endurasport.com/products/?ProductID=75&initcode=E5025BK

eta - to confirm what mfin said above, I use La Passione summer shorts in warmer weather and they're fantastic too.

I was looking into this only recently, and came up with Endura Thermolite and Lusso 2 Zero as possibles. The Endura are (according to the reviews) a bit warmer

I have had a pair of Castelli Nanoflex bib shorts for a while now. They fit quite well, I sized up to M rather than my usual S, and I did the right thing as they couldn't do to be any smaller. The pad is okay, not as good as the Cytech in my La Passione summer shorts, but I tend to ride shorter distances in the colder weather so it's sufficient. The water resistance does wash out though after a few washes, but that can be remedied with re-proofer.
I have just got a pair of Sportful Fiandre norain shorts as well, which seem very similar (an even smaller fit at first trying on, the M is quite snug). I'm expecting much the same from these as the Castelli, but as yet the weather hasn't been cold enough to use them yet. I suspect it won't be long.
  • I would recommend the Parentini P100 or the new K dry, true to size, superb quality and price.
the K dry is also water repellent, but soft, unlike nanoflex hard treatment.

    circa 140£
they use C6 HT elastic pad, honestly best i ever tried.

Not sure where to find the pricing though. I have ordered Parentini (Mossa) from these people, and had no problems and they are doing the Shark K Dry shorts for 105euros.

I've just ordered - sorry, I meant "pulled the trigger on" - the Endura Thermolite! I'll let you know how it works out.

The Rapha ones are indeed expensive, but they are great. Have had them for 2 yrs, use them throughout the winter and they are as good as new. Worth the money, and if you can find a discount code even better.

The Ale Roubaix shorts did well in a Bike Radar group test recently. might be worth a look.

    The Winter shorts have arrived!

First impression - Jeez Louise, they've sent 6XL by mistake and my bum's never that big. The material doesn't stretch as much as your regular shorts, so they're unexpectedly wide in their unstretched state. The fit is fine though: if you're 6'4" (192cm) and weigh about 14st (88Kg), XL is the one for you. The legs come to just above my knee and end in a broad grippy strip of rubber that keeps a good hold on my leg without being too tight, the non-leg area comes a long way up and the shoulder straps are wide and comfortable. The shoulder straps are the only bit that aren't thermal - they're the same mesh as most bibs have.

On the bike, the pad is huge and keeps you comfortable (at least for the short ride I went on last night) and the shorts just fade into the background and let you enjoy the ride. Just occasionally you'll remember that you used to feel the wind howling all the way from the North Pole and through your shorts, but you don't any more. So in summary, they're great and you should get some.
