Majorca 312: where to stay

A group of 4 of us are wanting to do the 312 next year, however, we will be taking other halves with us.
Bearing this in mind where would be good to stay for the week? We don't want to be too far from the start, would prefer a villa or apartment, and be within walking distance of an attractive town / village and beach.
Where would be best to base ourselves, and any recommendations on villas for 8 people?

Port de Pollenca is a lovely place for a family holiday and close enough to ride to the start. Plenty of villas to hire near town.0

It looks like the start is in Playa De Muro so you colud stay there. It's pretty much all new hotels and apartments with a long sandy beach. Probably no worse than staying in Port de Pollensa.

Other places near by are Playa de Alcudia and C'an Picafort both of which are Majorcan tourist towns next to the beach. All three places have good bike hire places.0 -
Playa de Muro is definitely where to be if you want to be right on top of the course start and finish and there is the official hotel there which is your standard Mallorca beach hotel. The issue with that area is that there isn't a lot to do other than the hotel pool/beach and the bars along the main road, so I'm not sure how popular it would be with the other halves. The other issue is that the entire area gets mobbed for the days around the race as the big European outfits have thousands of riders all staying in the area so it's not exactly a relaxing place to spend your time.
A better bet for a more enjoyable holiday would be to go to Pollenca Old Town (several miles from the seaside but a nice town with lots of nice restaurants etc) or Port de Pollenca (seaside town), which both have more to keep you entertained while not riding.
There are hundreds of villas in the area between the two (some are walking distance, but be aware that the lanes around there are a bit of a maze and some can be pretty difficult to avoid being stranded in without a car/bike) and a smaller number in each of Port de Pollenca/Pollenca. In this area you'll easily find a private villa with its own pool and grounds and it will be extremely quiet so is perfect for relaxing. Taxis are pretty cheap or you could rent a car to get around in when not on the bikes.
We run lots of tours in Mallorca each year (Training Camps and the Mallorca 312 with guaranteed entry) both Scheduled and Bespoke, using a variety of private properties to suit the relevant group's needs and I'd be happy to help if you wanted to discuss what we can provide further.
Hope this helps with the decision making.http://www.ledomestiquetours.co.uk
