I currently run an XTR 970 crankset on my MTB and would like to get a Stages Power Meter.
Which of the available models (if any) would work with this crankset?

None, the M970 has an Octalink V1 spline. New chainset needed.0

Are you sure? I thought that the M952 was the last with that interface and it moved by the M960 (and then M970) to HTII?0

Does that mean that any of the Hollowtech cranks will work? I just have to match up the crank length etc.
I've got a 105 5700 meter running on a 5800 crankset on my road bike.0 -
Hollowtech is the hollow formed crank arms. Hollowtech 2 also has the hollow bottom bracket.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

It's a Hollowtech 2 chainset, as RM said Hollowtech is different, and actually not all HT2 cranks are Hollowtech.
That's a complete irrelevance though, because there's still a spline interface on the LH crank, which on M970s is Octalink V1. It's the only HT2 chainset, road or MTB (except possibly the very short lived 7800 carbon one), to not have the 20 or so spline interface. Tough luck.0 -
Thanks for the info.
I will have to wait until I update the group set to 10/11 speed.0 -
Nowt to stop you just replacing the chainset.
Go for Rotor and get INpower. Avoid replacing batteries every 20 seconds.0 -
Hi njee20 - just spotted your reply!
What chainset would you recommend to replace the 970? My other option is getting a Powertap wheel built.0 -
G3 PowerTaps have crap reliability, I wouldn't. They eat torque tubes, which are bloody expensive.
If you're set on Stages I'd get M9000 cranks, or I'd get a Power2Max or Rotor INpower as i mentioned above.0 -
With the Rotor, would I keep the chain rings and swap out the cranks, or would I need to buy the whole crankset? My current crankset is a triple, is that available with Rotor?0

Hmmm, triples are very out of favour, I think (but I've not looked) that Rotor and P2M are all doubles or singles.
May have to go Shimano and Stages.0
