Unidentified component

I'm assembling my new Vitus bike, but have a part I can't identify. There is no parts list.
Can anyone assist?

The bike came fitted with a shimano nexus 3 speed hub.
Does this mean it is surplus part in this instance, as I can't see where it would go?

It's for attaching a rear mech, so yes, surplus for now.
