Ultegra 6870 Chainrings

I'm looking at building a Ultegra di2 6870 based bike and looking at the chainring combos. I currently ride a 50/36, that suits me - as age creeps up my power to push bigger gears decreases so the 50 is big enough. There is lots of conflicting advice and experience on the web - if I buy a standard 50/34 system and change the 34 for a 36 I cannot see, logically, there will be a problem. But experience forces me to ask '...will there be?....'. Any advice appreciated.

It will be fine, and will have a slightly better quality of change than a 50/34.

you can actually pretty much mix and match to 50 and 52/53 and the 34 and 36 and 39.

only slight issue i had with changing in 52/34 is the front sweep on the front mech doesn't work as nicely (though it still works)>

Shimano reccomend 16 teeth difference but i've had 19 teeth difference work, though it sounds rubbish....

    No issues at all
FFS! Harden up and grow a pair :D
  • A bit odd this but I'm struggling to find the part number of the 36T chainring for a 6800/6870 chainset so I can compare costs on different sites. I have found one of these - Shimano part number Y-1PR 36010 but it appears to be for a different chainset. Can anybody help me on the model name and/or part number for the actual 6800 36T chainring? Thanks.
  • Why not just run the proper 50/34 combo and if you don't have enough hills to need the lowest gear, tighten up the rear cluster?
  • I do live in a (UK) hilly area and recently changed out my 50/34 to 50/36 which I find much better. Hence, for the new bike build I wish to have a 36T inner chainring.
  • Found it - I believe it is Y1P436000
