Hi,

I know there a fair few of you out there that have these, and I have just become the happy owner of a yellow disc 20 as a do it all bike. Its first big task will be my second LEJOG next May.

I want to get some guards and a rack mount on asap and from a very quick look it seems very tight clearance between the rear tyre and the bottom of the chain - I was hoping to get a full guard with chain protection too but that area looks tight? Which guards have you gone for and did you have to do any cutting or modifying?

Also - can you recommend a rear rack? Do I need anything special to account for the disc brake calipers or will any rack fit?

Any help really appreciated.

  • I went for the SKS Longboard mudguards. The best coverage guards I could find. They were a pain in the arse to fit though. I couldnt get them to work using the eyelets half way up the seat stays so had to use the eyelets by the caliper. I dont know how this would affect mounting a rack to it as I havent tried.

  • I just bought a PX London Road Disc as my do-it-all bike. Not fitted mudguards yet, but have some SKS Chromoplast ready and waiting. But as for a rack, I'm using a Topeak MTX Disc specific rack which seems to work well.

I got a standard fitting rack on mine cause the calliper is on the chainstay, disc specific racks are only needed if the calliper is on the seatstay.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.
