on a wooden bike!
Weird I read an article about him yesterday about how he set up a sawmill in Lithuania when he retired ( that's tough) so just googled his name to see what he is doing now - and two days ago this attempt!

He's going to do the hour record for wooden bikes on it too. I'm not sure how much competition there is for that..."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

He's still pushing a big gear!0

I was interviewed by him at the bottom of the Paterberg during the Flanders sportive this year. My claim to fame, and probably his too.2020 Reilly Spectre - raw titanium
2020 Merida Reacto Disc Ltd - black on black
2015 CAAD8 105 - very green - stripped to turbo bike
2018 Planet X Exocet 2 - grey
The departed:
2017 Cervelo R3 DI2 - sold
Boardman CX Team - sold
Cannondale Synapse - broken
Cube Streamer - stolen
Boardman Road Comp - stolen0 -
Judging by that video he's not exactly putting the record out of reach[Castle Donington Ladies FC - going up in '22]0

He's lovely isn't he? Bumped into him after my Flanders ride in the museum and we chatted for quite a while.0 -

Yeah, he was really nice. Full of advice for conquering the Paterberg. Ride on the left and shout, basically2020 Reilly Spectre - raw titanium

I did both of those and still got put into the barriers by a 50 year old British lady.
I usually ride up the middle."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Yeah it didn't work for me either, got diverted to the middle swerving around walkers, then over to the right and came to a complete stop when the rider in front slid out. It was terribly wet and muddy though and not many made it all the way up2020 Reilly Spectre - raw titanium

In fact yesterday was the first time this year I've actually got up the koppenberg too thanks to rain, mud, duff cleats etc"In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Big fan.
I did the Paterberg just like he said.
and I did the koppenberg first time.....sort of
To be fair I've only ridden it 4 times this year and one of them was on the Ronde cyclo, and Sven Nys walked it that day.
Last year's score was Goat 4 Koppen 5."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

I love that bike. Tbh I only skipped through the video but he didn't seem to be gunning it at any point, was that the actual attempt?0

If we can get hold of that wooden bike for an evening, I am imaging some sort of 'Pro Race' Xmas sprint competition at a velodrome...Half man, Half bike0

Ha ha... if we meet at London Wall again we could use the Barbican High Walks as the velodrome... do you think you can source the bike? Or maybe Rick/Goat can as they seem to have the inside track with Planckaert...0
