Technically you won't need anything other than a bike, water, a map and lots of food. Some people deem things like garmins etc. a necessity but I usually feel they aren't. Good spirits are necessary too.0

Spirits may be necessary, but you will find that they are haram - and as such are proscribed under Iranian law.
That aside, and permissions having been sought, I find myself agreeing with the poster I quote.0 -

Probably nothing to worry about now we're best buddies and they're definitely not building any nukes.0

I see nobody's broached the awkward subject that someone might want to kill you, are you preparing for this or travelling unarmed?0

Rob Lilwall described his ride through Iran in his book Cycling home from Siberia and it seems he had no problems. Below is a paragraph of the book quoted in an article in the Guardian:
Although I did see some anti-western murals on walls in Iran, most of the people I met, like elsewhere in the world, were incredibly friendly. A bicycle mechanic insisted on repairing my bicycle. After two hours work and attaching a lot of spare parts to the effort, he gave me the bike back and it looked great. But then he refused to take any money, and said that because I was a guest in his country, it was for free. And the camping in Iran was spectacular and magical – on the edge of ancient mountains from where I could listen to the shepherds calling their flocks home in the valleys below.0 -
OP, you'll probably get plenty of replies in the Tour & Expedition forum. viewforum.php?f=400030
