Trek 8500 hardtail seatpost diameter?

Hi, I'm currently building up a trek 8500 hardtail (2006) and not sure what diameter seatpost it needs. I've looked in the trek archive and done a search, but no joy. Does anyone know what diameter i need?

    Measure the seat tube inner diameter.

    Could be 34.9 or anything best measure it.

    On my 2012 4500 trek, the seat post clamp measures 36.4mm

    I'm away for a few days and was hoping to have one delivered for when i'm back. Otherwise I would have done exactly that. Thanks anyway

    Do you mean seat post diameter, or seat clamp?

    Seat post is 31.6mm, seat clamp I think was still 36.4 then, which was a size virtually unique to Trek.

    they are still using that size or was back in 2012, my trek hardtail frame uses this strange size for the seat post clamp.

    Had trouble finding one when I wanted to replace the quick release to bolt and paid out for a Thomson one.
