I am looking for decent bike lock combination which are portable small chain lock and foldable lock, if d lock are better, please inform,
I will carry 2 water bottle and backpack for 12 / 25 commutes to work / A to B.
So I will need secured bike locks to avoid bike theft.

where will you leave the bike?
any lock can be cut, so it's really a matter of threat level, in london you want a seriously tough one, though the bike may still get stripped, in a safer place you can get away with something much lighter
this is the best guide to locks, the first post is kept up to date with what's good...

how do people riding their expensive cyclocross bike, never get stolen?
first, commuting to work,
I could leave heavy chain lock at work place (high end since getting cyclocross)
if the area is higher risk, i will put alarm heavy padlock as well.
second, sport centre (the following best venue are redbridge, newham, sportsdock, the one in victoria, etc) ,
some venue allowed me to bring my bike inside.
thirdly, shopping centre / retail shop to work / shopping supermarket
since i getting road type bike, I more likely to use decent osprey backpack, to put portable locks like chain or foldable lock, unless it is better loaded on the bike. so far there is 10mm kyponite chain.
Is there a d lock that doesn't interfere 2 water bottles?
Otherwise, if the area is risky to put cyclocross, I just use the hybrid bike to park at charing cross, and walking around central london for shopping (it would take around 25mins to bond street)
or else, I could get £100 second hand road carrera bike with mini d lock with cable £25, how much budget mudguard would costs? and is new tyre always better for puncture resistant?0 -
Why 2 waterbottles for a commute to work ? I'd have thought one would be fine and I'd probably take that off the bike anyway...,
If your bike is one of the nicest in the rack - then its at risk.
Your option of the carrera is what I would go for unless I had secure parking off street for it.
Can you get marathon schwalbes for it ? They're bombproof.0 -
the tyres may be cost quite a lot, I usually get continental-tyres to get more speed / smooth riding /
one bottle for 25 miles maybe not enough, otherwise I get dehydrated and the performance isn't as on optimal as possible.
the bike weight spec is 14.7 kg with cable disc brake and 24 speed gearing. £220 total without tyre, handlebar grip, saddle, pedal, with acera components including shifters,
clipless pedal, , cheap fullsize mudguard, lightweight pannier rack, 3 bottle cages (£5 each), all these thing costs up to £63
performance saddle £33 (for long distance comfort / hobby due to chaffing problem / sore)
and ergonomic grip £15 to prevent nerve damage
decent puncture resistant 42mm tyre £36 (it is not worth having thin tyre, since mudguard and suspension fork width) but the suspension fork is stiffer than usual with no maintenance .
other attachments are for handlebar, pannier back lighting, front light, saddle bag, other £8 bags stuck on there forever.
so it possible to have spare road bike for £100 with £15 clipless pedal, (not sure about mudguard but they are £20), and another mini d lock with lock £25, to keep weight low.
would say £160 for a bike unless adding more money for 9 speed gear carrera vanquish as cheap as possible.
The problem with road clipless pedal is that i need get another cycling £30-60, but it is MTB clipless pedal necessary than everything since i got a SPD tyre cycling shoe0 -
unless you're riding somewhere extremely hot and/or steep, you do not need even one bottle for 25 miles
it's myth that slight dehydration has a big impact on performance, for an average adult you'd need to be missing 2-3 litres and even then it's only going to matter if you're trying to perform at your limit
any bike is a target, irrespective of value, in london bikes get pinched and advertised on gumtree within a few hours, for the thieves it's pure profit whether they sell for 50 quid or 500my bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny0 -
i will try to aim 25 miles as short as possible , to complete it in at least 1hr 30mins,
then for 12 miles commute is 20 mins less than 1hr
any youtube videos of bike thieve getting punched? and do cyclist hired anyone to watch for bike thieves?
it is probably unemployment fault that too many thieves have no future just to relied on stealing other and breaking laws.
why do thieve picks up bike lock as well?
how do i get full claim on stolen bike? can it be 2nd handed bike ?0
