Apologies if this is mentioned elsewhere, but just noticed Aldi are selling 500's for £79.99 tomorrow.

Yeah, its been mentioned but no harm in reminders. I'm off to get one.
What cadence & HRM bits of kit do those in the know recommend?0 -
I use a Decathlon hrm cos it was cheap, it does the job, and a bontrager cadence cos i got a discount.0

So I can just stroll into my nearest aldi at lunchtime tomorrow and pick up a Garmin? Or do they sell out within 5 minutes?0

My fairly large local had just six last night (he wouldn't let me have one early) so I'd think they'll vanish in minutes.0 -
Excellent price but just be aware that garmin have stopped supporting the 500 (so no updates).
Although for £80 it is still a bargain.0 -
I got in at opening time. My shop had 2 on the floor in a locked cabinet. I had to ask for one at the checkout. They did not get it from the cabinet. No idea how many they might have had out of sight.

At this point lack of Garmin updates might be considered a feature!0 -

Was a bit annoying they didn't update the 500 to work with the Di2 D-Fly transmitter as they did with the 510 and 810. Fine if it was 20 years old and they didn't still sell them but that's not the case.0 -
Got one at 8.10 and they said they only had one other left.
Had a 705 I think it was years ago and not sure I needed one but couldn't not for the price.25th August 2013 12hrs 37mins 52.3 seconds 238km 5500mtrs FYRM Never again.0 -

I think you might be right - it certainly isn't a bad thing! Though, to be fair, if you don't use the live segment feature 4.2 doesn't seem to cause any major problems aside from, for me, the loss of external charging functionality. That said, there is nothing in 4.2 worth the upload time apart from the live segment stuff.......
I shall be returning to Firmware 2.8. 2014 was a good year for Garmin FirmwareFaster than a tent.......0 -

Missed out on this, got round to 3 stores before 9am and they had all "sold out" . They have been a bit naughty on this as they didn't have enough stock to even remotely satisfy expected customer demand - quoting limited stock - I estimate they sent only a couple of units each to local stores, though none would actually tell me how many they had initially.0

And there's an ad on Ebay listed this morning at 10.30 for one that looks like he didn't even get it home first.25th August 2013 12hrs 37mins 52.3 seconds 238km 5500mtrs FYRM Never again.0

I'm going to list an 18 month old 500 as soon as I get chance to work out how to upload the pics if anyone missed out and is interested. It's the Black and Red one though.0

I used to work for Lidl in one of the larger stores, when ever they had high value stuff that we knew would get sold out quickly then we would only get a few and they will be sold out very quickly with no hope of getting extras.0

Catford had at least one left at 5.30 if that helps anyone.0

Can you download (or upload, I dunno) your ride details from an Edge 500 to an android tablet ?25th August 2013 12hrs 37mins 52.3 seconds 238km 5500mtrs FYRM Never again.0

Yeah, you may need a usb converter though. Search youtube "garmin 500 strava android" and should bring it up.0 -
No you can only upload your data to a computer (it pre dates Garmin having bluetooth and wifi)
*Edit* didn't know you could do this over USB0 -

DC Rainmaker has a page on his website about uploading from Garmins to Android phones and tablets. That said, I've tried the methods given and not found it to be particularly successful. Far better just to use a computer with USB to upload your rides if you can.0 -
I snapped one of these up yesterday as I was still mulling over whether to keep the 520 that I got last week (ludicrous price difference just so I can tell my Di2 battery level).
Obviously I can just take the 500 back to Aldi for a full refund but I'm happy to pass it on for the £80 to anyone who can collect from Old Street.
The slight catch is preference will be given to anyone who also wants to buy the Garmin Extended Out Front mount that comes bundled with the 520 (and also you've got to promise to not just to sell it on ebay at a profit).....
PM me if interested.

Just wondering why you want to sell the Out Front Mount. I've got one and much better for viewing out front than viewing the Garmin attached to the normal Garmin mount on the stem.0

No, I agree they're great, I already have them on my bikes so the one that comes with the 520 is no use to me.0
