What do you think about them?

I think they look like a poor design that's over thought and over sold, much like loads of amateur inventions.

I also think you're advertising here and this thread should be taken down.

    My thoughts:

    - Register your trade mark, if you have a product worth branding protect it.
    - There are plenty of water proof trousers on the market with velcro sides. I have a pair of gortex ones for camping/walking, I have at least two pairs of motorbike ones.
    - the over shoe idea wont keep anyone's feet dry from cycling through puddles.

As with any kickstarter project - Price is everything. We saw a headlight with a lazer in a few years back with talk of it costing around £40. Well its retailing at £125 for a 300 lumen cycle light in a market where you can get double that for £5
  • Kickstarter - for inventors who don't have enough faith in their product to put their own money in.

Or for people like me, who have used it successfully in the past when i've had no way to put cash in. I was barely making ends meet at the end of the month, and Kickstarter offered both finance and marketing in the same package.

There probably are a few worthy inventions that it helps launch, but there will be very few of those that wouldn't have been better off with a VC or business angel. In the vast majority of cases, its a way to get investment in a product that isn't going anywhere. 5% of $1.5BN goes to kickstarter and the success rate is very low.

Statistically Most crowd funders don't get the product or the return that they were promised, but becuase its only £20 here £50 there few can be bothered.

My fav kickstarter is the book needing $1M funding titled "how to make a $1Million"

Going straight to a VC is nearly impossible without a track record of the products, unless you have a VERY well proven record of launching new products in new markets. Similarly, business angels normally won't look at items like this for the same reasons. From the launchers side, it is much better to avoid those areas.

The angels and VC's will price the risk accordingly, and you'll end up with nearly nothing from the deal if this is your first venture into the world of raising finance and launching products.

Like it or not, crowdfunding is here to stay, and offers a great way for would-be inventors to trial their product, gaining feedback from potential customers and also having a chance to move units.

    BREATHABILITY

For a physical activity like cycling. They need to be breathable. If not, forget using them.

The problem I've had recently is cycling in and out of showers. Made me want to throw my neoprene gloves in the bin.

Dear Chriss Bass, indeed you are right on this one, but we like to think that our product can have a wider intrebuintare. With our pants, anyone can be a stripper.

Dear mfin, this is a pre-campaign for our product, we want to ask opinions to receive quality feed-back from people. We appreciate your opinion, Thanks!

I'd take steps to make sure that you are free to use the trade mark you plan on using, as a first step. Even then, registering a trade mark may not be worthwhile if you don't have a viable product/business plan.

In this case, you might be surprised at the number of similar things that have been proposed. My instinct is that patent protection is unlikely to be available. Design protection, perhaps, but it may not be all that valuable, given how easy it would be to design another garment based on the same general idea that looks different.

The target market here is people pootling to the station and other relatively low intensity activities. IS there a big enough market, or will such people have anyway decided to drive to the station in a monsoon? Just sayin.

Can't see anything in the design that would make me buy them over the usual over-trousers I use for commuting.
    There is no secret ingredient...
  • For me they have a belt (no no on a bike!), and the waist line seems very low for cycling usage.

    Just my £0.02.

Damn, beat me to it
I doubt they are breathable (vear.me would have commented if they were) so game over.

I like the double pocket but think my Endura ones are much better.
They do look 'fashionable' I guess. Only good to go over 'fashionable' jeans/trousers though perhaps?
You probably only need the double pocket because they are so fitted.

If they are easy to get off, does that not make them a pain to put on?
I prefer it the other way around.

Edit: just seen the 'easy to take on' video that conveniently does not show them being fully put on.
What a faff! How is that full length (velcro?) fastening even waterproof?

You probably would not actually take them off like that anyway.
It looks cool to be able to remove a table cloth with the table still layed, but can you imagine doing it that way every day 8)

The shoe protectors are pointless and completely ruin the 'fashionable' aspect.
Especially pointless and a fashion faux par for the shoes the model is wearing.

+1 for breathability being key. The cut does look pretty good, too many waterproof trousers are MC Hammer style. I wouldn't be a fan of a long velcro closure though, past experience is it's just a lot of hassle when putting them on.

My motorbike trousers are full length velcro, and it took me a while to figure out the best way to get in and out of them. I only undo the bottom a bit, and leave everything done. Works well :D

Thank you for your feedback! We are working on all the legal parts that you advised already. Now regarding the target market, the question to your answer would be yes, it is! We are especially focusing on Northern European countries where people could really use such a product. We are from Denmark, by the way.

If you take a closer look, you will see that they do not have a belt, but the waist strap is adjustable. Thank you for your feedback!

Thank you for your feedback. Our pants are waterproof and breathable, it’s that we did not want to reveal all the features before the crowdfunding campaign. Yes, they are also easy to put on (if you check the features list on www.vear.me) We have tested the Velcro under normal rain conditions and the water never reached the Velcro due to the way the pants are design. And yes, you can remove it like that every day. A nylon Velcro band can last up to 10.000 usages, which according to the calculations we made, you can take it on and off four times a day, 9 months a year for 10 years.

Thank you for your support! Our product is also breathable, it’s just we did not want to reveal all the features before the crowdfunding campaign. We appreciate you believe in our idea and our product, we expect you on our official site www.vear.me to support us!

Did I miss the bit where you said what the retail price would be?

This really will govern if you are in the Lidl/Decathlon, Altura/Endura or Gore/Castelli range.

They look fantastic for Dutch/Danish style commuting which is normal people riding normal bikes slowly to work who need something stashed at the bottom of their bags to put over their work clothes. For that they look great. The number of times my bloody feet have got soaked riding through a puddle because my mudguard is broken or has got bent out of shape in the rack at the station is maddening.

For "proper" cycling or London style commuting (which is like nowhere else in the world), they won't do the job

Edit - the picture of the man wearing them says it all...

Thank you for your feedback! At the moment we decided not to disclose the price prior to the campaign in order to make the people curious. If you like, subscribe to our page we’ll e-mail you on the launch day, two weeks from now.

Yes, we know, it’s “cheesier than a Camembert or Roquefort. We are going to change that! Thanks for your feedback! :)
