Anyone got Ksyrium Disc Allroads?

I just purchased a set of Mavic Ksyrium Disc Allroads for my Cannondale Synapse. I'm generally happy with them but while cleaning them after my first ride i noticed that in a couple of places where a spoke meets the rim there is a small hole drilled alongside, around 1-2mm in diameter and around 1mm deep.
I have no idea why those would be there - it looks like a pilot hole for the spoke hole has been drilled in the wrong place. I have 3 of them on the back wheel and 2 on the front.
Does anyone else have a set of these? Evan's are trying to tell me these are drainage holes - but they don't penetrate the rim and I'm sure now they will try and tell me its a design feature! I have several other Mavic wheels and have never seen this before.
Looks like a manufacturing defect to me :-(

Any pictures?
Are all the holes exactly the same depth and position from spoke?
Would not have thought they would drill that accurately by mistake (or maybe more likely to???)
Evans are muppets lol. Did you not ask them to explain how a non hole was a drainage hole lol.
How would it drain from there anyway? Gravity may hinder that!0 -
Not sure how to post a decent picture. I got this back from Evans today after they got another set out to inspect, found they had the same holes and then spoke to Mavic.
Mavic advised that they are not drainage holes but are identity marks on the wheels.
The reasons for these identity marks are so that if the wheels needed to be rebuilt, they would know which orientation the wheels are and which is the first spoke hole.
Never seen this before on the Mavic rims i already have (SLR's and Equipe's)0 -
Interesting.
It seems odd that they would put a potential structural weakness right next to one of the points of highest load on the rim. You only have to Google "Ksyrium Rim Failure" to see plenty of cracked rims around the spoke holes.0 -
Yes - that was my concern as i've has a rim failure on some Elites in the past - although they had a lot of miles on them.
I tried to attach a picture. Hopefully it comes out.0 -
That looks very neat and in line with their explanation. Wouldn't worry about it.My blog: http://www.roubaixcycling.cc (kit reviews and other musings)

Had a look at my Kysirium Elites (not disc) yesterday and they are exactly the same.
I hadn't noticed prior to this thread!0
