What waterproof warm gloves and jacket should I get?

Hey guys,

I've used Sealskinz gloves over the past few years, but have never been too impressed with them, so wondered if anyone here swears by a particular glove for the winter (my hands get cold easily). I always have to wear a pair of cotton gloves inside my Sealskinz!

Also, I've never bought a proper winter waterproof jacket... Only used a merino top etc underneath a cheap gillet. Any suggestions for tried-and-tested jackets that don't break the bank, preferably £50 or under?

Any advice regarding either issue would be great!

Check out the Aldi kit on Thursday. They have lobster gloves that might suit you. I use their standard winter glove all through winter and they were so good I bought spares. I save my Sealskinz for the wet rides - they seem better suited to those than just cold rides.

They have winter jackets too - I dont think any jacket is truly waterproof - the key to it is to keep the wind off and stay warm. If it was properly waterproof you'd soak in your own sweat anyway.
  • Good shout mate... Will definitely have a look.

True enough... Ill see what jackets they have, too!

Having been on a mission recently myself for a new 'Winter' jacket, (see my thread) I've settled on a simply superb Galibier Colombiere Jacket, which quite honestly, @£67, is an absolute bargain, its fantastic. http://galibier.cc/product/colombiere-defense-training-jacket/
That said, its more of a windproof & water resistant jacket, rather than out & out waterproof, which usually make you sweat like a pig in.
If its one like that you're after, and cheap as chips, then look no further than Decathlon, as for £20, their waterproof's are a bargain. Its what I also have, and used from when I started last year, and it was fine, not warm as such, but kept the elements out.

I've also sent for some of Galibier's Winter Gloves too, which again, get seriously good reviews for £20 gloves.http://galibier.cc/product/barrier-ii-winter-glove/

Had this for 3 seasons so far and they have been good. This will be their last season due to loss of loft but I'd buy them again. Discounted at the moment:
