Nexus 7 hub gear issue...

I have a nexus 7 rear hub, but am having a major problem. I can't line up the two red dots and it won't go back together if I do. Therefore, I have three gears.
I've spent hours of fruitless searching on google, et al, and have stripped the hub trying to figure out why the dots on my Nexus 7 hub don't line up. If you google nexus 7 cassette joint pulley, you'll see the part that has a problem. It doesn't move far enough to allow me to use any gear over number 3. Anyone else had this problem??? Anyone with any ideas...?
