Recommend me a camera?

I'm looking for a decent-ish camera to do some wildlife photography. Doesn't have to be the equivalent of a Pinarello Dogma; a Boardman Comp will do. I understand 'decent' is subjective and that a lot of the expense is based on the lens.
I would like something that is a jack of all trades in that it can cope with taking a decent sunset over a hillside as well as a close up of a dragonfly's tadger.
I can justify spending up to £250 which I know is not much in this game but I'm happy to go second hand.
Perhaps needless to say, must be Digital - can't be doing with all that film and darkroom malarkey.

i bought a canon G7 and now never ever use my dslr, it does 99% of what a dslr does, infact video and stills are much better
a powershot 16 is cheaper and from what i ve seen of earlier models, takes great shots.0 -
Go to a shop and try them.
Seriously.
All new cameras are "good enough" unless you want something specific, but then you would be more specific.
Handling will be the main difference and you can't test that online. The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.0 -
For that sort of money I'd go for a Sony RX100 Mk1.
They are currently £279 new from John Lewis - second hand you should get a mint one for less than £200.
See here for sample shots

Have a look at Roff Smith's blog - a lot of his photography when on his bike was/is done with a Canon G11 - current version is now the G16. It shows how stunning a photo the humble compact can achieve.
