I tested my device with a course again yesterday leaving Bluetooth switched on. Not far into the course the screen froze. The device was switched off and turned back on letting me resume the course as usual. Instead, I turned Bluetooth off and never had another problem. itboffin's suggestion of disabling Bluetooth seems to be the winner along with downloading courses as Gpx files if you want TBT to work.

If like me you want the functions of LiveTrack and linking to social media, if you have an iPhone, Cyclemeter does the same job without the need for Bluetooth to be activated on your 810/510.
How do you find battery life if you are using Cyclemeter? I haven't used it since I got my 810, but part of the attraction of the 810 was the live tracking without compromising phone battery life.

Interesting. I have found the Bluetooth to be so patchy (drops so frequently) that I only have it on to upload rides.
Bluetooth was the only real upgrade from the 800 so makes the extra £ a waste of money

Anyone running Android if you need livetrack just turn on the gps location tracking & give permission to friends etc the same way you do in garmin connect.

Just done a 75 miler with TBT and BT. Firmware 3.40 and a perfectly behaving Edge 810

Staying with that until I hear otherwise!

LiveTrack with Garmin Connect does compromise battery life for the phone and the device. Arguably, not using Bluetooth on the 810 should prolong the ride battery life of the 810 a little. The Cyclometer App isn't using Bluetooth and just uses the phones gps to update your location and transmit on the phone network. That should also prolong your phones battery life during a ride by not using Bluetooth. Cyclometer has the added advantage of being able to connect to your ANT+ and Bluetooth devices if users want them, but the Garmin is doing that anyway.
I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.

Fully agree. Get the 800 and use another App for Livetrack etc.
