Depends what you want really. Roof mounted, car body mounted or tow bar mounted.
Personally I used the Thule 591 attached to some Thule roof bars.

BTW - the Sandicliffe offering is about the cheapest you can get if you are going for the Thule.
Check this website to find out which bars and fittings are specified for your car.

Got me to Scotland for the Etape Caledonia and back again without any issues.0 -
For a less permanent rack for ad-hoc use, check out the Saris Bones range. It's rear body-mounted and fixes to a tailgate.0

Thule towbar rack(not hanger) - picked up from eBay last autumn for £30. Sure its last year's model but it'll last me out.0

Friend used a Saris Bones on her saloon and obviously got dirt between the pad and the paint - made a right mess of it.
I use a tow bar mounted Thule carrier which is very good but obviously is contingent on having a tow barROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0 -
I use Saris Gran Fondo vertical bike carrier, does not cover rear lights or number plate. Easy to mount onto car, loading bike is so simple.0

I use an Atera Strava towbar mounted carrier A great bit of kit but a bit pricey unfortunately.
Easy to mount bikes and very solid and secure.

Saris Bones for me - never had problems with paintwork. I have the two bike version, ad it's always seemed solid and easy to set up.0

Following this thread too, as although I can get a bike in my car easily, 2 more of an issue, and as we plan to head out to start rides further afield over winter, some way of carrying 2 bikes 'ON' the car preferable.
I have roof bars, and some old Halfords Bike Carriers, from when we used to head off to France on hols, but whats the risks of clamping Carbon Frames in roof mounted carriers in reality ?0 -
A quick note on the Saris Bones rack - I wiped the rubber pads on the rack and the windscreen and bumper of my new car before I placed the rack onto it. No scratches whatsoever, so if you do go for a Saris Bones then it's prudent to wipe down the contact points on the rack and the car before installing it.0
