Hi everyone, i just get the sram x0 brakes with 180mm avid rotor on the front and 160mm rear, and i install them on my new cannondale lefty 2015 with magura calipers and some spacers as well, i didn't test them i check everything and it look great, the question is should be fine ? or should work perfect or i will have problems in the future... i just don`t want to damage the brakes or the bike. Someone else who install brakes with different brand of calipers or magura calipers?

Many Thanks Guys

What fluid did you use? SRAM use DOT fluid and the seals will probably be OK with mineral oil, Magura use their own mineral oil, and DOT will probably kill the seals.

For brakes to work properly, the piston diameters in the lever and calliper have to match (that doesn't mean be the same size) if the SRAM lever has a very different piston diameter to the Magura lever you could end up with some strange braking, if the Magura Piston in the calliper is much bigger than SRAM you may not have enough reservoir volume in the lever to cope with pad wear which could be pretty dangerous.

It's generally not a good idea to mix components unless you know what you are doing, and it's a very bad idea when they use different types of fluid.

An adaptor is an adaptor, yes you can use other brands, but that looks the wrong size, just get the right one!

The calliper is the bit of the brake you bolted to the adaptor, so 'guy' you messed up, not us!

I understand Many Thanks The Rookie what`s the wrong one ? both of them or the front one ?

Both with all that packing out, I understood the X0 caliper should need no CPS washers, so both should bolt direct to the adaptor with no spacer at all.

Depends on which XO calipers they are, old XO's from 2011 and 2012 were CPS calipers and used CPS washers, newer XO's from 2013 and onwards are Standard calipers and don't use CPS washers.

Whatever calipers they are, there looks to be incorrect mounting with both of them.
  • You will destroy the seals in either the caliper of the lever as Magura are mineral and SRAM are DOT. So use mineral and that will kill the levers seals and use DOT and you'll kill the caliper seals. The brake will not then work.
