I have a Marin east-peak 2004. (LINK BELOW)

I need to replace the front forks and have £250 to spend, I am aware I need a 1 1/8 threadless with around 100mm of travel but what else do I need to know? And does anyone have any suggestions on a really decent set for my budget.
Thanks!

You'll need to know what axle your front wheel has (presumably regular quick release). The issue is 26", straight steerer and qr are rapidly becoming outdated, so choice is slimming down on the short travel side of things.
Personally, I would look for a decent second hand set of Rockshox Rebas. The second hand market can be a minefield so you may be more inclined to buy off the peg. Recons aren't bad, just basic and the TK damper is not ideal, but relatively inexpensive.

Chap I ride with waxes lyrical about his Marvels. I've never ridden them, as he's 3ft nothing and rides a toy sized frame, so I can't comment.
As I said though, if you're confident going second hand, Rebas are your friend.
EDIT*
These are slightly over budget, but I've owned them and really liked them despite the inherent lack of stiffness of QR

Thanks so much for the reply.
I think I'm going to explore the second hand reba market - so just to verify I cant get a tapered it would need to be straight steerer? + I cant change the 9mm QR to 15 or 20mm bolt through with an adapter or anything?
thanks a lot, p.s. do you mind if I post a couple options to you when ive had a look to verify the best option/ make sure I'm not buying an incompatible fork?
