Iv got £100 to spend and need some decent winter bibs.

Looking at the Ale PRR Ponente as i have some other Ale bibs and really like them. Does anybody have a pair ? I will wear them with some nanoflex leg warmers through winter as i cant stand tights. I dont get on too well with Castelli pads so not interested in those and Rapha and Assos are a bit out of price range

I need something thermal lined as on long winter rides my man bits can get very cold.

Should have bought Pro Team Thermal bibs in the rapha sale. Failing that, go to the outlet store in shepperton mallet.

At what, £140? They weren't reduced much, were they? At the outlet they will be 50% off. That's the guide. Though that's not particularly helpful if one is hundreds of miles away.

Any west country Bikeradarians want to volunteer for a PT Thermal shorts group buy?
  • Living in Essex kind of rules out the 8 hour round trip.

The cost of petrol will be more than the saving !!!

  • That's IF they have them, of course. They should do. They always answer emails and are very helpful.

It is a tough drive. Even from South Wales it took me 2 hours once you factor in lights and route.

Last winter I bought 2 pairs of the dhb good ones and they've been excellent. I've no complaints as they're warm, all transfers are good as is stitching and colour after multiple washes. They'll be good for this coming one and probably another too. I think they were around £45 each when heavily discounted. Not waterproof though but hold up well in showers and light rain.

Was about to suggest DHB Vaeon Roubaix (I have a pair and they are almost as good as my favourite Rapha pair) but it doesn't like they make them anymore.

Lots of people do them. At the spendy end Rapha/Assos. Castelli do the Due which is nanoflex and so works well in rain. Prendas generally have Santini ones. I'm sure Google will generate something

I tried on the Rapha thermal bib shorts at the outlet store, massive camel toe look lol - fitted well but I look bad enough in lycra as it is without adding to the comedy factor. Think was due to the thicker material not letting the pad fold smoothly but not had it on any other shorts.

Looks like the Ale came out top of the (admittedly limited) bunch, which includes Assos and Rapha.

Just bought a set of the Tiburu 3/4s. Should see me through the winter nicely.

    Have you thought about 3/4s?

I wear castelli roubaix 3/4s throughout the winter - so temps from -4 to 15 degrees. Much more comfortable than tights, and my shins don't feel cold. You might want to have another look at the castelli as they updated the pads last year and they're much more comfortable than before. But fair enough if the shape isn't right for you. The DHB roubaix 3/4s are pretty good as well.

I have moved away from 3/4 bibs. I have the Tiburu shorts and then wear knee warmers in cooler weather and intend to wear legwarmers in cold weather. More flexibility....
