80mm for jumps?

I'm just getting back into MTB on my 2003 Spesh Epic (xc FS bike with 80mm forks), inc some basic skills coaching after many years mainly on road bikes. Now about these jumps on my local trails - I'd like to practice some and learn to do them properly; but am I more likely to break my body and my bike until I get a bike with more adequate suspension? - Apologies in advance of this is a stupid question - the road does that to you

But BITD when I was young (10,000BC according to some on the forum) we had rigid bikes, and some of us lived to tell the tail.

Jumping is more about technique than equipment but just be prepared to eat dirt while learning.

I reckon due to increasing age, injuries and an ever developing sense of self preservation I'm actually slower now on my 140mm full sus trail bike than I was 5 or 6 years ago on my 100mm steel hardtail.
I am a lot poorer mind.
