Just about to buy 2013 a Giant Defy 5 for the wife and wanted to know if you can put 28c tyres on them?
We ride on road and gravel tracks and wanted to see what the biggest tyres we can get on them?

25mm is Giant's recommendation with or without mudguards, well it was in 2013 when I bought my bike. 25mm will fit with the Giant Specific mudguards, ignore the typo which says 700c x 35mm above the price

They also now have a new alloy mudguard which covers 23 - 28mm

Yes confusing isn't it, I'd check with the retailer if you are thinking about getting them. I don't know whether Giant have increased the frame clearances on the 2016 bike to take 28mm tyres, If anyone knows can they reply.
Whether the alloy guards would fit the 2015 frame is another matter. If you are not using mudguards you may be able to squeeze in a 28mm, will depend on how the particular brand you choose sizes up. Whatever you choose, make sure there is sufficient clearance on the underside of the brake caliper. Shimano 5800 105 standard drop calipers are designed to be used with tyres up to 28mm.0 -
I have 28mm 4 seasons on mine without mudguards, still loads of room.0
