There are hundreds. How far is it? What other use might you put it to?

If you are commuting in all weathers and going through busy urban areas disc brakes are very useful as wet weather has no effect on them unlike rim brakes. Also think about enough clearance to fit mudguards to keep the wet and muck off you.

Below is a road bike :-

And an example of a more rugged bike :-

Which shops can you use under your scheme ?
  • I've just bought my first road bike on CWS and went for Ribble, mainly because I could spec it how I wanted (bike builder) and it's a great price.

Also sell everything else you need.

If you primarily are going to use it for commuting then I'd suggest a cyclocross style bike in all honesty. I have made the switch from a road to a CAADX for commuting and I much prefer it. They tend to be almost as fast as a road bike but you can get thick tyres for riding the potholes and all weather stability and confidence, disk brakes for when it's wet, drop handlebars and if you want to, in the summer you can put skinny tyres on them. Make sure to get one with mounts for full mudguards and if you want panniers, mounts for them too.
Riding in traffic is feels better on the cyclocross bike as the thick tyres give a lot of confidence you're not going to have to swerve to avoid bumps and the ride is much smoother as they can be run at nearer 60psi than 85+.
  • Great stuff folks thanks very much for the help i think cyclocross is the way forward for me! Many thanks for the help and suggestions :D

Ribble do some great options, and they are also recommended by "BikeRadar" :)
