changing fork length on a retro rigid

Hi,
I was trying to get some advice on swapping a fork. I have an old 1995 retro aluminium bike with a 400mm crown to drop-out fork, steel. Would it make much difference if I fitted a carbon fibre fork, same rake but with a length of 42.5mm, which i believe is standard now ? Will the extra 25mm make the bike unridable or dangerous ??

Looks like ill give it a go. Saves buying a new bike when ive got this newly powder-coated retro with better spec stuff than than my 300 quid budget would buy.0

1995 may well be 1" steerer head tube, what size is the steerer on the forks?Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

1995 maybe a bit of a early estimate, its an old peugeot aluminium, might be 1998-2000. It's deffo 1 1/8, i fitted the headset last year.0
