Selling a bike...

I suddenly find myself in need of some short term funds so, sad day, but I need to sell the Kona.
The three obvious places are here, Pinkbike and eBay. What are your experiences/recommendations of any of these and is there anywhere else I should consider?
Thanks.

I've had success here and on eBay. I did however find that selling as individual parts was easier and resulted in a better return0

Would you like a valuation?
I guess selling your lice infested body is not generating the cash you expected?Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
I've found selling bikes and parts very straightforward on Pinkbike, but the most successful has been local MTB Facebook sites. A quick keyword search should reveal whether there are any near you.
eBay is fine but remember you take a 10% cut for the sale and 3.4% cut for PayPal transactions.
Singletrackworld is also another well recommended route and Gumtree can be productive.Current fleet

I think I'll be selling as a whole. Haven't got time to fart about with individual parts.Would you like a valuation?
I'll add up all the upgrades as a starting point and decide what kind of giant hit I take from there.I guess selling your lice infested body is not generating the cash you expected?
Unfortunately I look like Predator without my clothes on so that was a non-starter.I've found selling bikes and parts very straightforward on Pinkbike, but the most successful has been local MTB Facebook sites. A quick keyword search should reveal whether there are any near you.

Ah yes, Singletrackworld, thank you. Would Gumtree really be a place to shift a high spec bike? Good idea about local MTB Facebook. Damn, I'll have to sign back on to that shîthole now!All the gear, no idea and loving the smell of jealousy in the morning.

You'll find that selling as parts will be considerably quicker. I spent a month trying to shift my old bike complete, getting some silly offers. Spent an hour stripping it down and sold every part within a week for £200 than I was asking for the bike complete.0

Interesting. Perhaps I need to think about that, then. All the gear, no idea and loving the smell of jealousy in the morning.

Selling whole is a very restricted market especially on high end bikes, you're waiting for somebody wanting that type of bike.
Selling as parts opens you up to a bigger market, plenty of people wanting a set of pikes etc.0 -

There's a wide range of bike on Gumtree, a lot of rubbish but quite a few high end bikes.
Facebook isn't ideal as you get a lot of grammarless oafs wanting something for nothing. That said it gets your bike/parts to an audience that's in pick-up-able distance and getting information across is easier.
As previously said, with something newer and high end like this there will be high demand for parts, so it's more than likely you'll end up getting more if you split it and put in the time listing individual adsCurrent fleet

Serious bummer.
Ebay might cost a bit more, but you get a massive market.I don't do smileys.

Feel for you, just had to do the same thing with both my bikes. Now wheel-less. But hoping to snap up a ebay winter deal.0

Always worth putting on FB (MTB Trader for the whole country) and Gumtree simply as it costs nowt.
Putting the bits on Fleabay will sell it quick, don't forget though the ebay 10% is now on total transaction cost (including P&P), so make sure you put the P&P high enough or you can lose out if you aren't careful (and too high and you lose out if someone collects!)Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
Serious bummer.
Yes, tell ma about it. And the annoying thing is I just need the money for a month due to a freelance job running over its completion date due to a lazy client. Very frustrating.Clockworkmark31 wrote:Feel for you, just had to do the same thing with both my bikes. Now wheel-less. The might be a nice Kona to be snapped up soon.Always worth putting on FB (MTB Trader for the whole country) and Gumtree simply as it costs nowt.

You could look at selling just enough to get by and then rebuild it after?Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

Not a bad idea, might be an option. I need 2.2K so it might be worth seeing what I can get out of that. All the gear, no idea and loving the smell of jealousy in the morning.

I've found pinkbike really good on the whole. The odd chancer with a stupid offer but on the whole all are genuine buyers. Sold my Carbon remedy on there for cash collection with no hassle the part diff my Hardtail for the same.
Giving both full bike or splitting for parts option on the ad worked well but found overall I got more money back selling the bike complete.Bird Aeris : Trek Remedy 9.9 29er : Trek Procaliber 9.8 SL0 -

Well considering I needed a short term cash injection, I'm not going to be looking until the winter months and then it will be a frame only unless I see a very good deal.0 -
I've managed to raise the money by other means, so I don't have to sell my toys. Phew! That was close. All the gear, no idea and loving the smell of jealousy in the morning.
