Greipel gets relegated as expected. Don't think it was intentional, just moved out to pass the EQS rider. Might have a knock on effect on Doull in the points jersey with EBH moving up to 4th on the stage?

Not much went well for Andre Greipel after he crossed the finish line on stage eight of the Tour of Britain.
Having crossed the line first, Greipel was soon relegated for deviating from his sprinting line and moving Team Sky’s Elia Viviani toward the barriers.

Then, with flights out of the country reportedly booked quite soon after the finish time, Greipel and other riders were forced to take the London Underground to Heathrow Airport.
Riders stayed Saturday night at a hotel near the airport, meaning they had to travel around the Capital after stage seven, which finished in Ipswich. This transfer caused consternation among some riders, including Greipel.

  • Wow that's ridiculous. Very stupid organization. Have they never heard of Uber. Maybe it was too busy; after all London IS broken.

Pretty sure he is not coming back especially when they robbed him of the win in favour of British team Sky in Tour of Britain. Got to help the sponsors out right.

Excuse me please if I've done any mistakes but I have no eyes in my back and I choosed my line to sprint on the barriers. Nothing on purpose

@AndreGreipel I watched it 10x.U stepped off the leadout. And sprinted down barriers. We have done this enough years to know who won today.

Wow....FORCED to take the Tube. Times are hard...... :?
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.

Griepel must have been steaming by the end of yesterday

He may have chosen his line, but hes not considering that it was a diagonal one! Its a bitter pill to swallow for him, but thats life sometimes.

I reckon the ToB organisers would rather the final sprint of the race had been won by Griepel who is, after all, king of sprinters this year. What a honour it would have been to have the multiple TDF stage winner rounding off the race in London?

Loads of riders get the tube after the London stage. It's the quickest way out of town after all. Saw the whole IAMs squad heading to Green Park yesterday and a couple of Movistar boys. Last year saw plenty of the same.

This is plainly b***ocks and you know it. It's nothing to do with which teams they ride for, he moved way off his line and trapped Viviani, who was closing him down quickly again, against the barriers. It was the easiest decision of that kind I've seen. I don't think it was deliberate and I would rather Greipel had won but it was a blatant DQ offence. I think Greg Henderson may not be the most unbiased person to comment and I seem to recall you didn't think his comments counted for much when speaking out previously.

The transport arrangements on the other hand are unforgiveable and the sort of thing that stops the big names coming back.

Anything that results in a Sky win suits FF's mindless narratives.

Can't find the stage 7 thread but see this sh1tshow from the back of the race

    Keep watching.....

obvious question...but given how many police bikes they have patrolling the thing, why wasnt one set up on that exit to direct them the correct way ?

as for the Heathrow thing have they fallen in the tourist (BAA) trap, cant believe anywhere they wanted to go wasnt possible from London City instead, would have been a nearer transfer too, that was just plain daft, central london is far more easily accessed from the East, by staying the East side, not the West side.

At the pro race level, the race organisers make the arrangements eg hotels on behalf of the teams. Also it's not quite true you can get wherever you want from City Airport, direct. The number of airlines using City are far less than LHR, and often the fares are higher - which is significant when race organisers or teams are picking up the bill.

Cycling is certainly faster than the tube.

As someone said, there are plenty of police outriders. Could then not have hung around a bit longer and then given the team buses an escorted convoy out to the airport?

On the video, how come no moto was on the roundabout directing everyone?
(Still gave rise to a very funny video!

I'm assuming that the buses and support vehicles were keen to head to Dover and get the ferry back to home service courses, hence not available to ferry the riders to the airport. Guess the organisers could have set up buses to take the riders to LHR, but to be honest from central London taking the train is a much quicker option than driving...
