A good first bike for my girlfriend..

Hi there,
My girlfriend recently said she would like to start coming out on rides with me
So I have been looking for a half decent bike for her but I'm not sure what to go for..
I'm not looking at spending to much as I'm not totally convinced she will stick to it
But I don't want to be a cheap skate, I'm not going to get her something I wouldn't ride myself
Or she will just not enjoy it and give up.
My question is do you think a low end modern Road bike would be lighter than say a High end
Cannondale from the early 2000s? I remember the welding on them being beautiful compared to the welding on the cheap aluminium frames of today which are quite frankly an eyesore in comparison..
I understand that aesthetics aren't everything so what I'm really asking is which would be more comfortable donyou think and also is 15/20 year old 105 going to be better quality than the low end shimano of today?
I'm pretty stuck on what to do so any advice is welcome!
Cheers
Chris

Look no further than Decathlon
The BTwin 500 SE is uner £300 at the moment and gets very good reviews for a starter bike.

And the good thing is that you will be able to offload it easily if she doesn't stick it out.
The above is the drop bar version but there are flat bar models also if she would prefer0 -
I looked at this thread thinking you wanted to do a swap.0

Cheers for the advice and sorry for the very late reply, I followed your advice and got her the btwin, she enjoys cycling in fair weather but when it's raining I'm on my own but it makes a very nice commuter instead of taking any of my bikes outin the rain0
