Which tyre for rim

I need some help. On my bike I have rim 622x16. What is the max width tyre that will fit on my rim? Is 40 mm OK?

Thanks but my rim width is between 15 and 17 mm.

For max width tyre is more suggestions...2 x rim width, 2.25 x rim width, 2.5 x rim width...which is right?

I don't know what make your rim is, however Mavic's recommendations for
15mm wide rims is 19mm - 28mm wide tyre
17mm wide rims is 25mm - 32mm wide tyre

What type of tyres are you looking at fitting and what pressures are you proposing to use?
