Can I use a sram red 22 chains et on a 10 speed setup? Is there any difference between an 11 speed chainset and a 10 speed?

yes and yes (but not enough to matter)

if you search the interweb you'll find some compatibility tests done when 22 was released

  • I have. I just wanted someone that knew more than me to tell me whether it was possible or not before I spend any money.

    SRAM and backwards fitment.

10 speed SRAM shifters will work with a SRAM Yaw or 22 front derailleur and 22 rear deraiileurs. Makes front shifting much smoother but no advantage with the rear.
SRAM 11 speed shifters will work with a 10 speed front and rear derailleur. If you want 11 speed you only need to change your cassette and shifters.
11 speed chain and or chain rings is fine with 10 speed.
I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.
  • Great.. Thanks. Just got a great deal on a 11 speed exogram chainset, but I'd previously bought 10 speed shifters etc.
