    The other thing is this stops you rotating your grips on purpose. I mean when the top of lock-ons wears smooth I flip them because the bottom side is still grippy. Of course that might just be me.

    Inelegant solution
    1/ Cutting the bars will impact weight reduction in the grip area
    2/ Any twisting potion will act to pull the grips off, If the lock ring (only one now, can't have two) is going to fail I'd rather they at least stayed in place
    3/ Once the bars are cut you can ONLY use this standard grip, not normal lockon or push on
    4/ If you want to shorten the bars you have to recut the wedge at extra expense
    5/ Although you remove some of the bar, it is then filled with a section of grip so total weight may well go up

    That's ignoring whether it is needed or not, a simpler solution would be a a pointed grub screw through the lock ring into the bar
