We're doing a small tour in that area in mid September. Once you get away from the busy coast, there's some excellent, quiet riding.
We can organise bespoke tours if there's a few of you.0 -
I was there in October last year, enjoyed it so much that we are going again this year.
As Berni says, once you get off the main roads along the coast (it's especially busy around Monaco), there are some fantastic roads.
The weather at that time of year should still be good, ie sunny with temperatures into the mid-20s.
The Cafe du Cycliste website has a small "where we ride" section with some good suggestions for routes.0 -
While not there specifically to cycle I did hire a bike for a couple of days including 1 days guiding with these guys file http://www.cyclecotedazur.com (although their website now looks as if it's down - not sure if it's a temporary blip).
When we have been we have got accomodation through https://www.nicepebbles.com/ . I liked staying in the old town the best, nice atmosphere and restaurants etc...
This is the route I did which is pretty nice and scenic but there are plenty of others out there. You could do some of the route de grande alpes which starts in Geneva and finishes in Nice.

I think Cycle Cote D'Azur has now renamed to Azur cycle Tours (although not sure if the same one).

I went out with a group ride in July, and the guy that runs it (Justin) was very helpful - and I'm glad I went with this option as I'd surely have got lost! A bit of an outlay for both the guided ride AND bike hire, but I really enjoyed the day (despite a chute near Monte Carlo!), we went up the Col De La Madone after going to Menton on the coast road.0 -
If you have the possibility, 3h driving from Nice there is the Mont Ventoux, I went here this summer, really worth it.0

Thanks very much for info folks. Have no knowledge of this area at all, previously just rolled up to popular cycling spots in France with car, tent and bikes and got on with it, finding great routes & loads of other cyclists in the area. Doesn't seem to be same amount of info online re places surrounding Nice? just wondering how easy it is to suss out without guides/ organised cycle trips, (though haven't heard of many) or if you really need local knowledge to make best use of time?0

Some great rides that can be found without too much difficulty. Some examples being Col de Madone, Col de Braus and Col de Turini (https://www.strava.com/activities/74234887). I know people in Eze (Col. d'Eze), to the East of Nice and stay there, which is a fine base for the routes above. If you've got a car though, it's easy to go further afield or shorten some of the days.
But you can't go wrong with the routes mentioned above - great riding, great place. Enjoy it.0 -
Hope you're not in Nice now - a big storm came through yesterday, and there's flooding in the surrounding areas!
Just done 3 days in the Ventoux area, looks like we finished just in time.0
