Loose Mudguard Boss

Hi,
Last winter I went to undo the rear mudguard boss on my 2nd hand Trek 1.2 (2014) only to discover after a few turns that the allen bolt was not unscrewing any further as the whole boss was also turning.
The bike was in immaculate condition when I bought it and had only done about 50 miles so I suspect the previous owner wasnt aware of this either.
I attempted to crimp the edges of the boss to the frame so that it didnt spin but this didnt work. As it was part of the frame I didnt think there was much could be done about this, however after recently reading that loose bottle cage bosses are quite common and can be fixed with the right tool, is the same true for mudguard bosses?.

is it the same type? i.e. rivnut? if so, yes - can buy rivnuts and use a special tool to fit them - your LBS should be able to do it.
May also be able to just use a jubilee clip also0 -

Thanks for the helpful info. I'm not sure if it is the same, it looks it to me, perhaps a quick trip to the lbs would be worth it.
At first the jubilee clip looks like a good idea but I would need the bolt to be centrally located to support the mudguard not on the side, unless I'm misunderstanding the idea completely?.0 -
maybe a pic would help?0

thanks. ok, that looks like a standard rivnut to me - allen head bolt stuck inside it.
LBS should be able to remove the stuck one and replace the rivnut0 -
Happened to my alloy Trek and I had it replaced with no issues. They did it for free under the lifetime warranty - only for the original owner though.I'm left handed, if that matters.0

Thanks guys, any idea of cost for a LBS to do this?.0

20 minutes labour and a cheap part so I don't think it would be much.I'm left handed, if that matters.0
