Hi -
What type of low weight mud guards would you recommend for a Giant Trance, and do I need front as well as back?
Thanks!

I use a muckynutz bender fender (think it's now called a face fender) on the front in winter just to reduce what gets in my face. Don't see the need for anything on the rear, getting a little dirty is part of of the sport in my opinion.0

As above, just a front fender bender/marsh guard etc, loads of different makes and all work the same.
I don't use anything at the back.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
Muckynutz Face Fender & Muckynutz Rear Fender for me.
Very lightweight, easy to remove & install. If you're going to be covering any kind of distance in the mud/wet, you'll soon get sick of having a soaking wet arse and the back of your head getting splattered in mud. A rear guard stops all of the crap accumulating under the saddle too... Yuck!0 -
I have a fender bender (front) and and a butt fender (rear), you'll see similar lost of places now, my local bike shop has their own branded and on-one do some as well.
I like the butt fender for muddy XC rides as it reduces the amount of mud (its quite sandy and abrasive round here) that then gets graunched into the surface of saddle and shorts reducing wear.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
I use a cheap version of 'ass saver' from Decathlon - easy on/off, light and does the job.

I have an Enduro guard on the front of my anthem and that works fine I would have one on the back to deflect the worst of the crud but the maestro suspension only has a single bar on one side so no good. I did think about crud catcher or similar on the rear but CBA to be honest.
Thanks everyone. What is roughly the upper limit of what you would expect to pay for a pair of guards?0 -

I think you are correct - it is bigger, but at least same colour
I use it as a 'ass saver' under my seat (very easy and quick on/off), also I have another one - I cut the big one to measure - and installed it behind the rear shock - will upload few photos to show.
It does the job brilliantly , keeping the crap off the rear shock/mech etc. its much easier to clean.
