New Cassette/Chain issues

Hi, 1st post on here, I tried to use the search function for an answer but to no avail.

I have fitted a new cassette and chain to my Trek Xcal 9 2014 - I upgraded the cassette a Shimano slx 11-32 10 speed and the chain I got is a KMC x10.93. It sounds as if the chain is rubbing massively on the cassette as if it is too wide for it? They are both 10 speed, so it should be fine but it sounds really loud as I am riding, even with a straight chain line the sound is there.

Has anyone had this issue before, how did you solve it? Is there anything I can barring buying either a new cassette or chain again as I'm skint!

Thanks

Check that the chain is threaded through the mech properly and not rubbing on the tab separating the sides of the cage.

    Assuming it's indexed correctly.

  • I'm such an idiot! I checked when I got home from work and I'd fed it through the rear d wrong, was the wrong side of the tab like you said. Haha! It's the right way now. Thanks!
