04.50 this morning.
Specilized allez, 700c 28 tyres, 100kg rider.
riding to work, forgets the 2nd bus stop has a bit that stick out

in front of the white SUV
head down, pedalling away, looks up, ah the kerb, zero time to swerve or brake, hits it, bike rolls over the kerb, huge whallop, inner tube splodes, gets it under control
zero injury to me other than my pride
so, bike looked ok in the dark.
but wheeled it home, and drove to work
so, the exception when I get home to find the rim is damaged in some way.
But, my real concern it, yup, its a carbon fibre fork, so, what do I need to look for on the fork.
advice please

advice please
Advice, don't cycle with your head down, look where you're going.0 -
Well yes, that goes with out saying. lol
Just concerned over integrity of my fork now.Pinnacle Neon 3 20170 -
What were you doing riding in the layby / bus stop in the first place? If you are going to ride along looking at your stem, give yourself a fighting chance and ride in the road.
Re checking the bike: hold the front brake on and rock the bike back and forth. Should feel solid with no creaking or clicking
If you hit the kerb really hard, it would be sensible to drop the fork out of the frame and give it a careful visual inspection, especially the point where the fork crown meets the steerer.
If you're in any doubt, have a bike shop look at it for you.0 -
I'd replace the fork and probably the frame, you can't be too careful, or in the case of looking where you're going....you can.One plays football, tennis or golf, one does not play at cycling0

Hang on a minute - is the no injuries comment a smokescreen?
Are you actually Chris Froome?0 -

I usually crash well = not getting injured.
I have played chicken on a MTB with mates many moons ago, with the brake right rule.
but one time the other guy broke left, so yeah, I wrenched the front brake, instant lock and flipped off onto my back, mate runs over my head and shoulder.
damage, slight graze on small finger, a little bruising and buckled my mates wheel beyond repair.
and no helmet, I was 16, now 39, still being lucky.Pinnacle Neon 3 20170 -

I woke up feeling complete crap and was no where near my game when I was riding = stupidity.Pinnacle Neon 3 20170 -

Err, I beg to differ! Replacing a frame and fork after an off without any second opinion on damage (particularly if none is actually visible) would be an overreaction, IMHO.
Some good/sensible advice above from Keef above (but bear in mind any second opinion from an LBS will always err on the side of caution for understandable reasons in the litigious age we live).0 -

You my good man like to live dangerously, I replace my frame and forks after the following :-
- a crash
- getting caught out in the wet
- road rage from motorists
- running out of food on a ride
- a particularly hard ride
- seeing a crash on the tdf
Seriously these days carbon is just too fragile. One plays football, tennis or golf, one does not play at cycling0 -

I'm thinking Joeblack wasn't being entirely serious...0 -

I'd go further than that and replace the rider as wellwww.conjunctivitis.com - a site for sore eyes0 -

Can't find a replacement, too many bespoke featuresPinnacle Neon 3 20170 -
Well the fork it out
It looks OK
But I'm no expert.Pinnacle Neon 3 20170 -
A new fork will be going in, not going to risk it
also figured out how I ended up hitting the kerb, well, on top of the feeling like crap and not looking ahead.
the road has a cycle lane that ends 60 meters before the kerb.

Nope, you've lost me completely. What does the presence / absence of a cycle lane have to do with anything? You still rode straight into the kerb...0
