Keith Bontrager and his famous aphorism: "Strong. Light. Cheap. Pick Two" comes to mind.“Give a man a fish and feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime. Teach a man to cycle and he will realize fishing is stupid and boring”

Buy the parts yourself, a few hundred quid if you know what you're doing...0

Nothing? Really?
They usually feel pretty special to me!0 -
Lots of open mold chinese carbon frames plus Sram Force and cheap carbon wheels will come in well under 7kg and cost less than £1000. I will never buy branded frames again.0

The problem with bikes as you get higher spec you're spending increasingly more for less and less weight difference. To the point where you're spending an extra £100 on a seatpost that is only 6g lighter ! Crazy.

The other way to look at it is that better parts are lighter - like for like generally they are - but there are a few things you can often save a lot of weight on, which is why you don't necessarily have to spend a lot.0

When I looked into this question in 2012 the cheapest option (other than self-built) was Boardman 9.4 SLR which was 6.8kg @£3200 (see http://www.boardmanbikes.com/road/2013_Elite/slr94_2013.html) although it also been measured at 6.37kg (14lb) see http://decaironman-training.com/2014/01/08/deca-ironman-bike-boardman-slr-9-4/. The new version is pretty much the same weight http://www.boardmanbikes.com/road/slr94.html. Confession time, I bought this bike in black and have been v v happy with it see viewtopic.php?f=40044&t=128574240
