New brakes

I have noticed my front brake must have taken a big hit as the two pads did not line up, on further inspection I can see the RHS calliper arm is bent. I have had a go at straightening it, and although it is much batter its not perfect.
therefore I would like to replace the calliper.
problem being its a late 80's Rayleigh and has nutted brakes. I have read about replacing the brakes with recessed nuts but there seems to be divided opinion about it.
are there options for a straight replacement or is it best to used a recessed nut calliper?
my only stipulation is that I don't want to spend a lot of money and I worry cheapo brakes aren't going to be much cop and be hard to set up.
please advise

Have a look on SJS Cycles website. I bought some cheapo nutted calipers for my son's restoration project on an 80's Peugeot and they were fine. Alhonga I think they were.
ETA these Tektros would appear to fit the bill. (You'll probably need the 57mm drop for your frame / fork)

How about these?
Would like to know if they would work?

I would avoid Campag brakes unless you are running them in conjunction with Campag shifters.
The caliper release mechanism on these brakes is built into the shifters so if you don't have them then you will have great difficulty getting the wheels off and on the bike as you won't be able to use the release function that opens the calipers slightly to give you the clearance needed.
If you look at the Tektro brakes mentioned above you will see a small eccentric lever arm that is there to actuate the release mechanism. That is absent in the Campag calipers.0 -
ah ok that's fine. thank you for that.
I do like the idea of tektro brakes, but they seem expensive for what they are... or are there cheaper options than the ones listed above?0 -
The Campag calipers you found on Ebay are designed for newer frames with the tubular recessed nuts. Plus I think you'll need longer drop calipers to reach the rims on your bike. Measure the distance from the centre of the brake caliper mounting hole to the centre of the brake track.
