I'm slowly buying parts to upgrade my Pinarello, mainly dura-ace 9000 with some ultegra here and there. Only bits left are the brakes and crankset. Watching some GCN vids on youtube, I've noticed the pros sometimes have non shimano cranks, usually some sexy exotic brands.

What are the dura-ace alternatives? Budget is £300ish

  • Also, the bike is a pinnacle ROKH 2013, think it is BB30 and has an adapter right now to fit it's 105 crankset...ideally I think I would like something that is supposed to fit the bike as the FSA adapter creaks a lot!

Get a real bottom bracket (FSA have yet to make a part worth a damn) like Praxis. The pros that don't run a Shimano chainset with a Shimano groupset only do so due to sponsor requirements. If they could run Shimano, they would (as witnessed by Cav refusing to run FSA). You can get more exotic and slightly lighter than DA, but in terms of function? I still think it's top dawg.

Of course, if you feel the need to change, then I have Storck Powerarms laying about. It's a hideous amount of money to save 200g, but looks the nuts.

I don't think you can top DA for your set up. Couple that with a Rotor or Praxis BB and away you go!

Rotor or Dura ace would be fine. avoid FSA, its buttons.
  • Good reviews here:

When I read this originally they had also included the 6800, it was a few grams heavier but actually stiffer so was the better buy.

It's vanished as "Also when retesting we didn’t have on hand Rotor and Ultegra cranks so we’ll have to add them back to the test in the next version"
  • Dura Ace 9000 cranks £230 at Merlin Cycles at the moment.
  • Thanks guys...different is always good I think...I'll stick with DA9000 and swap the BB for a praxis one! Creaking is pissing me off and FSA don't seem to be held in the best of terms.

    Thanks!
