October sun please

Desperate for a cycling hol fix before winter in the North takes hold, need to drive there - can't do flying - any suggestions for October, south France at most, just wondering what weather's like & if anyone has done that time of year, thanks.

You might be lucky you might not be, further south you go the better, but if you're not prepared to fly then it's high risk. Overnight ferry to Santander and head down into Spain?

Not going to work; even South of France can't be guaranteed sunny in October, although you could get lucky.

Spain's your best bet, but that's a hell of a drive.

Ferry to Santander then drive south for Spain/Portugal.

France is iffy in October (even late September around Ventoux can be biblical rain - been there, done that).

Thanks for that - France kind of as suspected, and crazy distance for what could end up cold, wet & just like home...but presumably no worse.

Could be worse.
But if you are anywhere near your ID then chances are it will be warmer. Maybe not drier, but warmer.

Having said that, I'm going to be in the Cognac area for the last week in September / first week October . OK it's a friend's place and FOC, but I used to do a lot of cycle touring at that time (ie after schools went back!) in and around the Dordogne and Ardeche, and mostly had a great time. Yes there were wet days, but rarely a whole one, the sun is still warm, and the country's great. I much prefer it to Spain myself.
