First Road Bike Advice

I have just taken part in the cycle to work scheme and have £700 to spend at evans.
I don't know much about road bikes as have always just had a mountain bike.
I am looking for a road bike I can use to get around town but also do the occasional London to Brighton or London to Paris etc.
These three have caught my eye and would welcome any thoughts on what to buy, or anything else that people would recommend for within/close to my budget...

I might look about a bit more, like at ribble or planetx or dolan.0

Did you read the first line of the original post??
OP are you looking at disk braked bikes because of your MTB background? You might get a slightly better specced rim braked bike for the money.0 -
Assuming you mean £700 for just the bike i would look at one of these
http://www.evanscycles.com/products/cannondale/synapse-alloy-tiagra-disc-2015-road-bike-ec071022
It gives you disc brakes, a good frame and a wide range of gears. It is more of an endurance rather than head down racing bike.0 -

Save £100 and buy it from Wheelbase

Am I living in a parallel universe where I'm the only one who can see the first line of the post: "I have just taken part in the cycle to work scheme and have £700 to spend at evans.???
The OP is unlikely to forego a saving of £140-280 dependent on tax rate, and the ability to pay monthly via salary sacrifice, in order to save £100 on a cash purchase at Wheelbase...0 -
Hi all
As Keef has picked up on yes I need to purchase from evans - but thank you for the suggestion, they do price match but unfortunately wheelbase doesn't seem to be on they match from according to their website.
The cannonade does look nice so think I might pop to the store later see if I can persuade them instore to match.
With regards to brakes I am easy either way whether disc or not, wasn't particularly drawn because of the brakes.
Thanks again all.0 -
Sounds like the best idea, you never know until you ask. The reason i suggested disc brakes was you wanted a bike for around town riding which can mean sudden stops in any weather. Rim brakes are not as good at stopping especially in the wet but you would get used to them.0
