I originally poo poo'd the idea of a tiny Garmin, but then realised it had connected features so got one to replace my old 500 (after having connected features on my 1000 I cannot see any use for something you have to plug in to a PC) which I will now sell.

Its a bit like having a button mushroom on your stem (or handle bar as I will try next), but I think it will be great for lots of people.

One thing to be aware of - Even Garmin Support were stunned to find out that you cannot configure either of the two screens to show heart rate, or zone. You have to scroll to the dedicated screen, or auto scroll.
Personally, I like to see my cadence and heart rate together to monitor my efforts on big climbs.
Also, mine is connected to my phone, live track works fine but runs are not uploaded to Garmin Connect until I connect to a PC. That maybe my error but it doesn't bother me.
Nice dinky small bike computer though!
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

  • Just ordered one after my Edge 800 finally died completely. Seems to offer all the functionality of the 800 that I actually used in a much smaller package. And having GLONASS and Bluetooth is an improvement on the 800. Glad Garmin stuck to the quarter turn mount so I don't have to replace them all on my bikes, too.

Looking forward to trying it when it arrives.

Oh yeah, forgot about GLONASS. The 500 took forever to find satellites sometimes.
  • I'm also considering getting one but I've read that alot of people are having problems with the latest firmware where they keep losing their settings, they keep resetting every time the unit is turned on/off. Garmin are apparently working on a fix for the next firmware update.

Also it uses smart recording which means the interval between GPS points can be between 1-10 seconds so not as accurate as 1-second recording as used on many of their other units, but I presume it will still be more accurate that my smartphone running strava?.

Also my Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini is not Bluetooth Smart ready so I believe Bluetooth pairing wont work either. It has Bluetooth but an older standard. I will be upgrading to a Bluetooth smart ready phone next year though.

So i'm still undecided whether to go for one of these or try and pick up a 2nd hand Edge 510 which uses the older bluetooth standard and therefore should pair fine.

There's no particular reason to think it will be *more* accurate. As accurate perhaps.

One thing to note with the Garmin 25 unlike other Garminses is that it requires it's own proprietor y charging cradle. Which pretty much rules out charging from an external battery when you're out. Granted you probably won't need to but it's something to consider.
  • Got mine today. It is a dinky little thing.

Not tried it yet so can't comment on how easy the small display is to read in use.

The charging cradle is just a USB lead so I'm sure it'd be compatible with external batteries with the right connectors.
  • I see your a fellow local cyclist, i'm in Newcastle-Under-Lyme. I'd be interested to hear how you get on with it, particularly its accuracy and how well the Bluetooth connectivity works with your phone.

I have used mine a fair bit now and bluetooth with my iPhone 5c has been fantastic.

I stop it at the end of the ride, save it, and it is on starva within minutes.
I don't have to touch the phone at any point, as long as it is within range when I save it.
If not you just manually sync when you are.

The simplicity of it is what I love.
Its like a Garmin you got in a Kinder egg

Mine was working fine, apart from my personal preference about configuring screens as in post above.

Then I updated to version 2.60.

Oops! No more connectivity with my phone. Bad Garmin.
