Disc brake mount bolts loose...

I checked my front disc brake mount bolts earlier to see if they where causing vibration in the front wheel...
they weren't completely tight and won't tighten back up completely into the mounts/forks.
I noticed this over 12 months ago when I swapped from avid elixir to shimano slx brakes(with the same mounts)but managed to get them sorted and seemed to have been fine until now.
Any suggestions, maybe shimano mounts would help, just hoping its not the threads in the forks...

So presumably this is mounting the calliper and not the disc?

Is this caliper to adaptor or adaptor to fork, or are they direct mount?

Is the fork IS or PM mount"
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.
  • Not too well up on the technicalities, but the caliper mounts onto the adapter
which connects to the fork with the same bolt..which wont thread completely in till its tight?

Sounds like post mount (Google is your friend) and the fork mounts are stripped.

Take them off and examine the threads.

  • I did notice a bit of swarf on the bolts when I took them out,
is there a solution for this if they are stripped?

Helicoil might work, otherwise new forks, or at least lowers.

  • Are the bolts slightly too long?

Could be if they're the same bolts without the Avid washers. But swarf is never good.

Might not have bee swarf just some of the original threadlock. Try shorter bolts.

I swapped from Avid to Shimano, Avids had washers and longer bolts, I used Shimano adapters which came with shorter bolts so your bolts may be too long.
  • Thanks for the replies,I'll try a new adapter first,
not in any position to be buying new forks...
completely jinxed when it comes to bikes!
