MTB Training for a newbie and mini-newbie?
No Gear No Idea

I've dusted off the 90's Carrera (rigid none of this modern Zebedee stuff) and binned the perished tyres (yes it's been that long!) and mini-No Gear has been given a Dawes front "suspension" bike (she's got nice friends). Mini_No Gear is aged 9 and she's enjoying a bit of off roading. I was always more road bias so needed the equivalent of a BikerRadar jargon buster to work out what XC and DH mean  and would like a proper lesson with mini as other than "don't hit trees" I'm all out of advise.
I'd like to hit some of the trails (anything in the south-east is reachable) in the next year or so but I would like to get the basics covered first, as good as magazine guides are there's nothing like making a pro laugh at your technique (think of a wheezing middle-ager that needs to drop a few kgs and up his leg speed) to get the idea. The closer to Herts the better as I'm sure will need more than one lesson.
No doubt plenty more stupid questions to follow so please be gentle.
Cheers
