The Bargain of the Day thread

I don't know if this is something people would be interested in but I thought I'd put this up here just in case. The idea is to post any short term special offers and promotions you may come across with the aim of helping other riders spend less. There may be a similar thread somewhere else that I can't be bothered to find, or perhaps it's something no-one has any interest in, but I thought I'd get it rolling nonetheless.
For instance, Superstar currently have 20% off their Arctic line of finned pad kits and rotors with the FBFIN20
http://www.superstarcomponents.com/en/shop/?q=arctic
Gives you two pairs of finned backing plates and four pairs of kevlar or sintered pads for the brake of your choice for £24 with free shipping
Feel free to post any similar offers, promotions and the like.

Typical when ive just ordered some from uber,oh well.0
-
I wouldn't say they are a bargin uber's semi-metalic are still cheaper even with the code and have fins on both sides. rotors are the same as uberbikes so you'd save with the code0
-
Not true, the Uberbike pads are £20 for two pairs of fins with pads, a further £11 for two more pairs of inserts; a total of £31; 29% more than the Superstar with code deal. I wasn't suggesting this is some spectacular deal, just opening a thread for others to post good deals.Current fleet

I tried Uberbike finned pads and they didn't really do anything to improve brake cooling. The Koolstop Aero pads are loads more effective but quite a lot more expensive.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

My experience with Uberbike pads has been something of a mixed bag. They're softer compound pads seem to work really well, but they seem to be rather prone to contamination and glazing. Plus the semi-metallic ones squeal like an absolute pig in the wet. Previously one bought them because they were the cheapest, but recently I've turned up a few more.
Race Ready Braking, £3.50 per pair for resin, £4 for sintered, free shipping on everything. Haven't used them yet but might give them a try for completeness sake soon.

If you really want cheap though, I've just bought half a dozen pairs of Selcof pads from On-One's big summer sale dealy. They seem to take a while to bed in, but due to my collarbone I haven't been out much. Hard to argue with £1-2 a pair though, even if postage is £4
http://www.on-one.co.uk/c/q/deals/sale/sale-components/sale-brake-pads
I imagine the Koolstop pads work well but damn... at £25-30 per pair, you may as well buy new brakes if you're running Deores. No doubt they're supremely effective, but that is rather a sizeable outlay for what still amounts to a pair of brake pads.Current fleet

I didn't read that on the iphone last night, thats a pretty good deal then.
The thing with the uberbike pads I've found is that they are thicker than standard so greater chance of rubbing. I'll be testing them out at fort william on saturday. I bought them then broke my collar bone lolNot true, the Uberbike pads are £20 for two pairs of fins with pads, a further £11 for two more pairs of inserts; a total of £31; 29% more than the Superstar with code deal. The Uberbike and Superstar pads are identical, made on the same production line using the same materials
Nukeproof pads are the same as well.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -

Merlin have got Pikes for £399 plus an extra 10% off at the moment. By far the cheapest I found
That's roughly £360 for a £800 fork

It's times like this I wish I were slightly modern, fair few nice sets of forks in that clearance sale, but nothing interesting and affordable in 26"
BC reminded me of this; from Superstar's wheel clearance sale DHX wheelset, works out about 53% off, giving you downhill rated wheels for £100, bought a set myself.

27.5" forks are fine on 26" bikes. Usually the axle to crown is 10mm longer so not much in it. Plenty of mud clearance as well.
I used a 27.5" Marzocchi form on my 26" Nukeproof Mega and it looked and rode right.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -

Two bikes on gripshifts (well as one is Shimano it's strictly a Revoshift)......not better or worse, just different, although I would use it for very gnarly riding as it does degrade the quality of grip on the bars by a small amount.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0
-
They're for front mechs so it's not like it makes a lot of difference. A slightly crude shifter operating an inelegant, clumsy piece of metal.
For something of X0 level, it's a decent price. Shame there's no rears though.Current fleet

As mentioned elsewhere, Superstar components have a 25% off UK made with the code BTS25WEB, valid throughout September.
So if you're looking to go 1xanything now's the time as you can get a narrow wide ring for £19.50 and a range expander for £22.50 among other things.

In the jump from the 36t to 40/42t sprocket I doubt that Shimano/Sram compatibility is going to make a lot of difference.
In any case, Uberbike do a nearly identical product which they claim is cross compatible, but of course, it's not in Superstar's sale. Same £30 as the non-offer SS. I was going to try one for the hell of it, but I sold the Bizango and run 9spd on the PitchCurrent fleet

Anyone building a bike? Merlin currently flogging Deore 2/3x10 groupset without cranks for £110.
Superb M615 brakes, shifters, mechs, cassette and chain. The brakes alone are £70 normally, so you're getting everything else for £40 essentially
