Sad times. Mountain biking is now used to advertise sh#t cars.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

Good that BPW is in the ad though. For a business that only launched 2 years ago that's not bad going."I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0

Any media showing mountainbike riding is a good thing i would have thought. That trail looks pretty fun, is it the new blue route?0

Track looks reasonable, car poor, bike good, women riding extra good. Win for the sport who cares about the car or the vehicle used to get mtb into the popular psyche.Closet jockey wheel pimp whore.0

Never mind the crap car, what bike rack has she got?“Life has been unfaithful
And it all promised so so much”

The 208GTi isn't bad, my daughter looked at one before going for the Fiesta ST, tiny steering wheel takes some getting used to.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -

We have a couple at work as pool cars. Awful things. They are just cheap, nasty, plasticky crap. Horrible, noisy engines, nasty interior trim and loads of electronic gadgets which last about five minutes before they stop working. They make my mondeo feel much better when I get back in it!Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
GTi as pool cars? It's very different to the base models.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

Top spec diesel equivalent, hot hatch performance but s**t in every other way. Some moron decided they would be better than the usual 1.6 TDCi Focus.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
Oddly tame riding. All the gear, no idea and loving the smell of jealousy in the morning.

Making a good sport look cool on TV is never good. It just ends up with more people taking it up because it's cool and then getting in the way and putting extra pressure on air ambulances and when a sport becomes cool it gets even more expensive.
Road cycling has become fashionable and it's never been worse. All them posers in their team Sky kit who are slower than a fat bloke in baggy old mountain bike kit.
I remember rock climbing getting cool after Dave Mccleod climbed the world's hardest route in Scotland and it went viral on Internet. There were so many fatalities after that and mostly clueless beginning getting in beyond their ability in a sport which doesn't give second chances.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -

Excellent post an, if I may, I will borrow it from time to time.
I also agree in this case.
I would rather the roads were filled with fat blokes in lycra wobbling (in every sense of the word) along on a bike than fat blokes in cars running over the serious cyclists. I'd rather the trails were used regularly rather than reserved for me.
The more people bike the more money there is for trail building, the more trail centres and the like will spring up and the more chance there is that development of trail centres/land access.
I was chatting to an embittered old Australian hag at a recent Toonie race (evening club "race" in Whistler) who was bitching about the number of people and saying it was better back when there were 40 people and more beer than now where 200 people can show up to a race. I told her she could always not pay her $2 and go ride somewhere else with her three friends and not bring us all down with her attitude. Your sport and riding spot become popular and busy? Suck it up and embrace the joy of seeing so many people enjoying the thrill of it.
I love riding for so many reasons and love to help people improve and develop their skills. If a friend of mine said they thought biking looked cool and fancied trying it having seen a Peugeot ad on tele I'd lend them a bike and take them for a ride rather than tut at them and tell them not to waste the time of the ambulance crews. Maybe that's just me.Closet jockey wheel pimp whore.0 -
Personally I prefer quiet, well maintained trails and a bit of digging to over used trails and spending my weekends digging so I can ride something half decent.
Trail centres are already sh1t because of the lack of maintenance. Money from parking at trail centres rarely goes to trail maintenance. FoD is 100% maintained by volunteers and funded by events like races. More riders will mean more wear on trails but not the maintenance to go with it. It also means more traffic on trails so a lot less fun for anyone competent enough to ride at a half decent speed.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350
