Just consider, before you build it all up, that you've decided to go as cheap as possible on (1) the grips: these will annoy you every second you have your hands on them if they're not brilliant, and (2) the seat clamp, which will also annoy you if it's not brilliant.Specialized Roubaix Elite 2015

And finished!
Only had a quick pedal up and down the road so far but its lighter than the voodoo and the forks are fabulous. Feels alot easier to pop the front end up as well. The frame is dead nice too. Needs a good thrashing out tomorrow and the brakes need bedding in as well.Framebuilder

I was skeptical, but that actually looks lovely - both aesthetically, and as though it would be a lot of fun to ride! Good job!0

Looks very good, I like the black stealth look (same as my Niota), and the Decathlon droppers are great for the price, I like the lack of remote as I swap on my lightweight fixed post for local XC rides and the Dropper when applicable.
With a dropper why not go back to a lighter bolted seatpost clamp?Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -

Yeah thats a good idea - i thought i had one but couldn't find so just used the QR - need to have another dig around and try to find it.ilovedirt wrote:I was skeptical, but that actually looks lovely - both aesthetically, and as though it would be a lot of fun to ride! Good job!
Thanks, yeah im pretty chuffed with how its turned out. On the trail it feels really confident and alot more planted than the Voodoo ever did. The 140mm forks also mean its really good on steep techy stuff - they hold the bike up in its travel - feels alot more stable on really steep stuff.Framebuilder

Superstar Switch Ultra Hubs in Gold, 15mm front QR rear.
Spokes: Sapim Race Double Butted Black
Sapim Brass Nipples
Superstar Tactic AM Rims
Lighter than the voodoo wheels, look alot nicer as well - the nice rear hub sound is a bonus too

Gone back to flat pedals to test them out for a while, didn't want to spend loads just in case i wasnt a fan so picked up some DMR V6's for £17. Not much to say about them really, low profile nylon body, grippy as a grippy thing and pretty light at 320g.

Really nice build, but the cable-tied-innertube chainstay protector spoils the look of it. Have a look at Screwfix's "self-almalgamating rubber tape" - you wind it on and it seals to itself (not the frame) so makes a much neater job, but still won't spoil the paintwork. It's £3.99 for 10m (enough to do a dozen chainstays), so it dead cheap, too.0

Few new bits on the Parkwood - Uberbike 40T Expander, Superstar Nano x Pedals after the bearings in the DMR's went to shit and a Conti X-King 2.4 for the rear that i picked up for pennies in the sale in the shop at 'Degla.
Also had a cracking morning out on The Long Mynd today, icy and bloody cold but the trails are so good round there.

New stem, Truvativ Husselfelt 50mm, wanted to try a stem that was a bit shorter than the 60mm on there and this was a bit of a bargain so couldn't resist. Initial impressions are good, steering sharpened up a little bit and front end pops up easier also.

I:e the long mynd, im lucky enough its only about 40 minutes drive away so ride there as much as i can. Some of the best natural riding this country has to offer in my opinion and well worth a visit.Framebuilder

New bars, went for some Renthal Fatbars and got a banging deal so here we are, little bit narrower at 780 vs the 810s on it before but after a bit of getting used to im much preferring the slightly higher rise bars with a bit less width.
Also took it out for a smash about the Mynd nearly 6 months since my last razz down there. Conditions were prime too which made it all the more fun.

Steel v Alloy (whats the point if they are gonna notch like that)
