New Wheels broken spoke

I bought a set of DT Swiss wheels in May and i have done just under 500 miles on them. I was out this morning and a spoke broke. They were purchased from Rose Bikes and considering the length of time i have had time and miles covered I surely did not expect this to happen so soon.
Is it a case of me getting on with it and having it replaced & checked at my LBS or is there some sort of responsibility or recourse that lies with Rose or DT Swiss?

It depends a little bit on what model of DT Swiss wheel you have; some of them have difficult + expensive to replace spokes. If you want Rose to repair them then you'll probably have to send them off, unless you can convince them to allow you to have them repaired locally.

The other consideration is that it's not uncommon for multiple spokes to fail once one has failed.

My concern is that I might might lose some more spokes. My LBS have said they will replace and check. From what other people have experienced with broken spokes repairs are down to the kit used and whoever does it and tension. The model is the RS 1550 with DT Swiss Competition spokes which seems to be readily available. Having said that my LBS asked if they are anodised or not to which I haven't a clue.

Yes, Competition spokes are easy to come by. I have just used them in one of my wheels.

Your LBS is just asking if they are black spokes or silver spokes (but trying to sound clever at the same time). Black = anodised.

There is no way to inspect your other spokes to see if they are near to failure, I'm afraid; if you get the wheel repaired locally all you can do is wait and see. It all depends on how willing you are to do the rounds with Rose, given how difficult it can be to recover postage costs.

I will have them repaired and see how i get on. I did in fact ask my LBS if they had black DT Swiss Competition spokes in stock but i can only assume he did not take that on board and maybe only the brand name registered with him. He did however waffle about them not necessarily being the ones to go for but this I intend to stick to when i take it in on Thursday.
For what it would cost to fix I didn't intend on doing the rounds with Rose but I just had to let them know what's happened in such a short space of time.
Thanks for your input and I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Not surprised, I started building wheels in 2007 as a result of buying a pair of dreadfully built DT Swiss wheels... their components are ace, but the assembly is often rubbish

Seeing that their components are quite good you can see why I thought their build quality would match that.
What would you suggest if it was to happen again?

I would recommend returning the wheels under warranty and get a replacement, which you would then need to be checked.
One broken spoke is a symptomm of a bigger problem and it will happen again.

Cheers. They have asked me to send back the rear wheel and postage paid for by them but ignored the email to which i have now responded to and asked for them to be replaced.
It would be interesting to see what they come back with as the wheels have been discontinued and out of stock.

Rose are keen for me to return the rear wheel to have the spoke replaced and true the wheel.
I am not keen on sending just the real wheel back. For the product to be defective in such a short space of time is really off-putting.
    I am now thinking:

Is it worth having them checked over here in the UK bearing in mind they have been used and the damage may already be done as they may well have not been assembled well

Have them rebuilt with any recommended changes eg. new set up spokes

Any suggestions would be most welcome.

the best course of action is to do what Rose suggest, otherwise you lose the warranty. In the future, stay clear of DT swiss wheels.

    Rebuilds are not cheap

Just reporting back to say that the wheels were received today. Rose sent them to DT Swiss to be repaired, centered and checked. Nil invoice. Fingers crossed all goes well from here.......
